The obvious build for a restaurant site is an online ordering system: cart, checkout, payment gateway, order dashboard. We built the cart and skipped everything after it — because the ordering bottleneck was never on the restaurant's side.

The Reframe
A busy kitchen is never going to log into a dashboard, manage order statuses, or learn a POS. Their WhatsApp intake already works. The friction sits with the customer: try dictating an order from a 170-dish menu over a phone call, guessing at prices and whether the Chilly Paneer is dry or gravy.
So the job wasn't "digitise the restaurant's workflow." It was: digitise the customer's experience of the workflow, and leave the workflow alone.
How It Works
Dishes live in a custom post type with per-item cuisine, section, price, variants, badges, and sold-out state. The cart is plain JavaScript with localStorage — no accounts, no sessions, no orders table. Instead of a checkout, it builds a structured message and hands it to WhatsApp.
- • Browse by cuisine, filter, search
- • Pick variants — half/full, dry/gravy
- • A running subtotal with a free-delivery nudge
- • A cart that survives via localStorage
- • One structured WhatsApp message
- • Items, quantities, variants, subtotal
- • Name, phone, delivery or pickup details
- • Zero new tools to check or maintain
The Entire "Integration"
No WhatsApp Business API, no approval, no webhooks. A wa.me link with an encoded text parameter carries the whole order into the chat the restaurant already checks all day.

- ✔ Zero new tools. Orders arrive where staff already look.
- ✔ No payment liability. No gateway fees, no PCI scope, no refunds flow.
- ✔ Nothing to abandon. The system can't quietly die three weeks in, because there's no new system to maintain.
